Mental Health-Informed Nutrition Counseling
Sometimes these mental health challenges co-exist with other life stages, chronic health conditions, or specific nutrition concerns. Dietitians are well trained to address these different nutritional needs, and mental health dietitians are extra thoughtful with how these nutrition plans are implemented.
pregnancy/postpartum
menopause
men’s health concerns
pediatrics
prediabetes/diabetes
high blood pressure
high cholesterol
healthy aging
family nutrition
digestive concerns (i.e. IBS)
and more…
Evidence-based, mental health-informed nutrition counseling focused on sustainable health and a healthier relationship with food.
Like you, I felt frustrated by the health messages stating that nutrition has to be picture perfect and complicated in order to be impactful. Mental health can make nutrition harder. And, sometimes knowing what to eat isn't always the problem. Mental health, behavior, environment, and life circumstances can make nutrition difficult even when you feel like you know what to do. Or, there’s so much conflicting information out there you don’t know where to begin. Instead of creating another nutrition plan that requires you to be on your A-game 24/7, or requires the energy of a part-time job, I decided to do something different. I created The Nurture Method. It is my signature approach which prioritizes on-going nutrition audits, rediscovering the pillars of health habits, transforming your external environment and internal dialogue, upgrading your nutrition knowledge and ability to take action, and using your new found energy to reconnect with the things that bring you joy.

The Nurture Method was created so that people with mental health challenges can have the support and resources they deserve to feel healthy, confident, and strong in their bodies again. We provide high-support, evidence-based nutrition care that considers the intersection of mental health, nutrition, and everyday life. This approach helps block the noise of diet and wellness culture so you can focus on what is most important for your health in this season and beyond. You don't have to have extra time, energy, motivation, or the perfect relationship with food before you start. Show up as you are, and we’ll build from there.
Ways to work together:
Telehealth nutrition counseling
Massachusetts based and accepting new clients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia.
Personalized, high-support nutrition counseling booked in 6- or 12-session increments, so you have the time and guidance to build habits that work for you.
In-network with Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim and United Health Care.
1 - Book an initial nutrition assessment
Once you schedule an appointment we can run a benefits check to see if you have nutrition counseling covered (typically this takes 48-72hrs). Most clients pay $0 out of pocket with insurance!! I do my best to share this information with you before your first visit so there are no financial surprises. If you find out you do not have insurance coverage we can discuss self-pay options or cancel the appointment, which ever you prefer.
2 - Fill out simple onboarding paperwork
This sets clear expectations between the client and provider, so we can focus more on quality care and less on logistical questions.
3- Attend your first appointment!
What to expect: During your 90 minute initial nutrition assessment we will review your medical history, current food and eating routines, complimentary health routines, health concerns, and other relevant information. From there, we will co-create a nutrition plan and wellness vision, using your personalized health goals as guideposts for the content of follow up sessions. You can think of the initial assessment as the “information gathering” stage, and follow up appointments as the "learning and implementation” stage. Follow up sessions are typically 60 minutes in length and start out at a weekly cadence, and then shift to 30-60 minutes at a biweekly or monthly cadence as confidence and motivation increases for the client.
Eating Disorders
Davis Nutrition Co. does not provide eating disorder treatment. We are happy to work with individuals that have a history of eating disorders or are in remission. We can also provide screening tools and education around eating disorders if it comes up in our work together. If there are concerns of an active eating disorder, we will provide you with a warm referral to a specialized dietitian so that you can get the support you deserve.

Weight Loss
Weight concerns are welcome here, AND we won’t reduce your health or nutrition to a number on the scale. We can talk about weight and body concerns openly while also looking at the bigger picture of your physical health, mental health, eating patterns, and relationship with food. We believe in “informed-consent” when it comes to nutrition for weight loss, and will discuss the potential risks/benefits of intentional weight loss and the signs of disordered eating to watch for if weight management is an important part of your nutrition journey.
What you can expect when working with us:
-
We won't give you a list of foods to eat or not eat and send you on your way. We'll consider your mental health, energy, appetite, routines, physical health, food preferences, and current capacity when developing your nutrition plan.
-
Knowing what to eat isn't always the problem. We'll work together on the barriers that make eating difficult, from low appetite and overwhelm to planning, motivation, cravings, and follow-through.
-
Nutrition changes take time. Our work is typically ongoing, with regular appointments and support between visits when needed, so you don't have to figure everything out on your own.
-
You know yourself and your life better than anyone and invite you to be an active participant in your care. We bring nutrition expertise, structure, tools, and evidence-based recommendations while we work together to find strategies that actually fit your life.
-
Nutrition is connected to mental health, physical health, medications, daily routines, relationships with food and body, and so much more. Your care will account for all of this.
-
Food is about more than nutrients. We'll make room for foods you genuinely enjoy, shared meals, celebrations, comfort, connection, and the simple pleasure of eating. There is room for both nourishment and fun—and learning to experience that without guilt or rigid food rules can be part of healing.
The three agreements we make to every client:
all foods can fit
weight inclusive care
you’re the expert of your health and your life
